Massoud Jamei, Alireza Mardasi and Farshad Etemadifar, three political prisoners held in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, face six confirmed death sentences. In the same case, Saman Hormatnejad and Davoud Hormatnejad received long prison terms.
The five political prisoners faced security-related charges, including “corruption on earth,” “membership in opposition groups,” and “propaganda against the state.” Courts sentenced them to a total of six death sentences and 30 years in prison.
Six Death Sentences Confirmed
Massoud Jamei, a labor activist from Ahvaz, is one of the three prisoners sentenced to death. His health condition has raised serious concern. He suffers from stomach cancer and liver problems, and he needs urgent specialized medical care.

Alireza Mardasi, also known as Hamidavi, is a teacher from Ahvaz. He taught for years in elementary schools in the city. He also suffers from respiratory illness and severe allergies, and human rights sources say he needs medical treatment.

Farshad Etemadifar, from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, was arrested in June 2023 with Saman and Davoud Hormatnejad. After his arrest, authorities transferred him to security detention centers. Reports say interrogators subjected him to pressure, questioning and torture.

In the same case, Saman Hormatnejad and Davoud Hormatnejad also received heavy prison sentences. Courts sentenced them to 12 and 15 years in prison. Authorities arrested them with Farshad Etemadifar and later prosecuted them through a security process.

The Supreme Court’s confirmation of the death sentences has increased the risk of execution for Massoud Jamei, Alireza Mardasi and Farshad Etemadifar. Human rights sources have reported torture, pressure on the defendants, denial of fair trial rights and urgent medical concerns.
This case shows how broad security charges in Iran’s Revolutionary Courts can lead to death sentences and long prison terms. The lives of three political prisoners are now in serious danger.
Hiwa Life calls for urgent international attention to this case. Iranian authorities must stop the executions, guarantee fair trial rights and provide urgent medical care to prisoners in need.
