Pejman Toubareh Rizi, a Kurdish political prisoner from Kermanshah, is under a death sentence in Iran. Authorities arrested him on 28 January 2025, and he is currently held in Evin Prison.
In September 2025, a court sentenced him to death on charges linked to membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. Reports say the sentence followed a non-transparent process marked by torture and pressure to force confessions.

Human rights reports say authorities tortured Pejman Toubareh Rizi during detention. They allegedly used electric shocks, severe beatings, and other forms of pressure to force him to confess.
The pressure did not stop with him. Intelligence Ministry agents reportedly raided his family home and confiscated the family’s phones.

During the raid, Fariba Ahmadi, his stepmother, suffered a heart attack and died. She had cancer at the time. Her death shows how security pressure can extend beyond prisoners and target their families.
Pejman Toubareh Rizi’s case is not only the case of a political prisoner facing execution. It also reflects a wider pattern of torture, forced confessions, family intimidation, and collective punishment in Iran’s security cases.

Hiwa Life calls for urgent international attention to Pejman Toubareh Rizi’s case and to all political prisoners in Iran who face execution after unfair trials.
